Department
Michael Matkovic is Head of CBBEL’s
Phase I Engineering Department. Mr. Matkovic has more than 24 years
of engineering experience, including 21 years with District One of
the Illinois Department of Transportation, and joined CBBEL in 2005.
Before coming to CBBEL, Mr. Matkovic served as Bureau
Chief of Programming for IDOT where he developed and
managed District One annual and multi-year programs, ranging in
value from $600 to $800 million and $2.6 to $2.9 billion,
respectively. As Bureau Chief
he was also responsible for ensuring the quality and
completeness of all Phase I engineering and environmental studies,
and the management of as many as 90 employees.
Prior to becoming Bureau Chief of Programming, Mr.
Matkovic served as the Project and Environmental Studies Section
Chief at IDOT where he directed the development and review of all
IDOT-District One Phase I engineering and environmental studies and
public coordination efforts, including
ensuring the quality and completeness of more than
200 approved Phase I engineering and environmental studies during
his tenure.
Mr. Matkovic’s extensive experience with
Phase I projects is wide ranging from simple intersection
improvements to complex interstate reconstruction projects,
including the reconstruction and expansion of 18 miles of IL Route
59 in Will County, the reconstruction and expansion of I-80/94 (Kingery
Expressway) and I-90/94 (Dan Ryan Expressway) in Cook County. Unique
project challenges included developing access management strategies
to improve roadway safety and mobility; minimizing environmental
impacts with respect to historic property, wetlands, noise, air
quality, and pedestrian/bicycle accommodation concerns; developing
appropriate and acceptable mitigation strategies, and securing
project approvals from adjacent Section 4(f) properties.
Mr. Matkovic currently serves as CBBEL’s
Project Manager on a variety of Phase I projects, including the
Caton Farm-Bruce Road multi-partner project in Will County, which
includes the preparation of a Combined Design Report and
Environmental Assessment in coordination with environmental resource
agencies via the NEPA/404 merger process.
Mr. Matkovic earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Civil Engineering from Bradley University. |
