PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consisted of constructing a 10 foot wide asphalt bike path adjacent to Addison Creek in the City of Northlake.  The bike path began at Wolf Road and Country Club Drive and extended to the north approximately 1.2 miles to Fullerton Avenue.  A pedestrian bridge (12’ x 80’) was constructed over Addison Creek at Fullerton Avenue.  The project was funded with both general funds and funds from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).  The City was reimbursed for 50% of the total cost of the project from IDNR upon completion of the project.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL) completed and submitted an IDNR Bike Path Grant Program application.  The program was a 50/50 program with all construction costs initially borne by our client with IDNR reimbursing 50% of the total construction cost.  After the grant was awarded, CBBEL prepared plans and specifications for the bike path, bridge, path lighting and landscaping.  CBBEL also prepared an application to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Water Resources (IDNR-OWR) for construction of the proposed bike path in the Floodway/Floodplain.

Construction of the bike path and pedestrian bridge over Addison Creek occurred within the Floodway/Floodplain.  A permit was secured from IDNR-OWR for the construction of both amenities within the Floodway/Floodplain.
