PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The I-74 road reconstruction is the largest road reconstruction project in downstate Illinois history. Project includes the reconstruction and widening of all pavement, the replacement of all off system bridges, and the reconstruction of all interchanges through Peoria and East Peoria. The estimated construction cost exceeds 400 million dollars.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL), as a subcontractor to Clark Engineers in Design Section 2, was assigned the task of designing all the off system roadway and drainage systems.  This work included the reconstruction of Forrest Hill, Gale, Nebraska, University, Broadway, Ellis, and Sheridan to facilitate reconstruction of the I-74 bridges. Gale and University are stage constructed with interchanges. All ramps at University and Gale were required to be operational during construction. CBBEL also was assigned the task of providing traffic signal design at the University and Gale interchanges and the University and Nebraska intersection. CBBEL structural engineers designed MSE and soldier pile walls throughout the Design Section to facilitate differential ramp elevations and limit right of way impacts.
