PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Cooperation and/or funding from six different units of government was utilized in the development of a truly multi-use recreational and flood control facility at the site of the Redmond Reservoir in the Village of Bensenville.  The existing reservoir was expanded by the addition of 110 acre-feet of flood storage and the reconstruction of spillways with modifications to the pump station.  A multi-dimensional park was created which includes two lighted softball fields, one with a 1,200 seat stadium; outdoor in-line hockey rink; basketball courts; sand volleyball courts; playgrounds; a soccer field; concession buildings with washrooms and a maintenance facility, all architecturally tied to the stadium; and more than one mile of trail system featuring a canoe launch centered on a seven-acre wetland nature preserve at the bottom of the reservoir.  These are complimented by construction of an indoor ice skating facility featuring a single 90' x 200' sheet of ice with five locker rooms, concessions, grandstands, and a public meeting room along with a pro shop.  The entire project was built in phases over the last five years with a total cost of $7.0 million.
