US 45 Millburn Bypass
Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. was retained by the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) in late 2008 to prepare Phase I Engineering and Environmental studies for proposed improvements to alleviate severe traffic congestion at the intersections of US Route 45 with Grass Lake Road and Millburn Road. These intersections lie within the Millburn Historic District, a National Register Place near the Villages of Old Mill Creek and Lindenhurst. The scope of the Phase I study includes developing and evaluating a full range of potential improvement alternatives ranging from improving the existing roadway configuration to constructing a bypass of US Route 45 either east or west of the historic district. Although the limits of the bypass study area is approximately one mile south to one-half mile north of the historic district, this project requires completion of an Environmental Assessment along US Route 45 from IL 132 to IL 173, a distance of 5.5 miles, to address logical termini issues with respect to likely improvements needed in the overall US Route 45 corridor by the year 2030/2040 regional planning horizon. This project also requires preparation of a Location Drainage Study and a Combined Design Report for the bypass study area.
